What exactly is "the working environment"?

Many people think that it is about well-being and happiness, and that it is more about what happens during breaks at work. But research clearly shows that the most important factors that inhibit or promote the working environment are those that are directly linked to the actual work itself. The working environment concerns how work is organised, planned and performed.

What can help improve the working environment?

There is no easy answer, but Pål Molander from STAMI says the following: "Curiosity! Many people find it difficult to acknowledge that they experience challenges associated with the working environment, but this is very common – particularly during periods of change and development. It is therefore important to take an interest in your own working environment. Ask questions about the challenges at your business and tackle those that are most important."

As a company, how can Veidekke ensure equality?

Equality refers to there being equal opportunities and a level playing field for everyone, with all people being treated with respect and recognised as a resource. In order to succeed at this, we, as a company, need to look at language, systems and tools.

What privileges do I have?

Of course, there is no single answer to this question, but have you reflected upon the micro-adaptations your colleagues make during a working day in order to adapt? Many of us are not completely aware of our privileges or what it takes for those who do not have the same privileges to adapt.

What does it mean to "truly be yourself at work"?

Truly being yourself at work means being able to relax and to experience a sense of psychological safety because we feel that we have been seen. It means that we do not have to expend energy to protect ourselves from racism, stigma and discrimination.
